A series of wax channels, or sprues are attached to provide a path for the liquid metal, and for air to escape, assuring an even flow of metal to all parts of the mold during the pouring. At this point, if Marco has chosen to use his adapted flask method, the sprued pieces are then set up to fit into large flasks.
The next step in this method is to make a second mold out of a plaster-like material (the investment), which acts like cement when mixed with water. The investment is poured into the flask, which contains the impression of the artwork.
