  Marco's Inspiration:
"The bronze sculpture of La Divina Pastora is rendered from intricately carved pieces of wood, the original of which is in the collection of the Taylor Museum of the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center. Pigmented patinas are placed on the bronze to match the natural pigments used to polychrome the traditional woodcarving.

La Divina Pastora is an image of Mary with the Christ child. The name is tied to the image of Christ as the Good Shepherd. The sculpture depicts a tall, erect lady with cleft chin and mannish hat, typifying the strong woman of the folk tales who puts on men's clothing and leads armies. This is perhaps typical of the strong New Mexican women who survived the harsh environment of New Mexico during colonial times. Religious folklore attributes La Divina Pastora as the patroness of shepherdesses and for care of souls."
