  Marco's Inspiration:
"The Mimbres prehistoric Indians occupied the southwestern part of New Mexico hundreds of years ago. Their cultural history has survived mostly in their burial plates and other artifacts. The Mimbres art has geometrical mysticism that uses triangles, squares, rectangles and sometimes circles. These lines make a modern abstract connection to cubism and other representations that remind us of Pablo Picasso and M. C. Escher.

From a ceremonial Mimbres burial plate, I found the elements of the rain serpent irresistible. This peaked my curiosity and challenged me to transform the art to a three-dimensional bronze sculpture. The neck and head of the serpent was most interesting, as you can see many similarities to the Viking ships. The crown of the serpent contains the three main elements of water, earth and fire, and you can see the image of Questatquatl, the serpent with feathers that was an idol of the Aztecs. The tongue of the serpent represents lightning and perhaps the beginning of life. On the back of the serpent there is the universal symbol of clouds, and the tail of the serpent represents waves or falling water. 'Rain Serpent' can be mounted on a wall or presented on a base."
