  Marco's Inspiration:
"The bronze sculpture of San Jose Patriarca was inspired by 19th century santero, Rafael Aragon. I originally carved the figure in wood, imitating the graceful elongation of the body and severe features of the face characteristic of Aragon's sculptural work. A latex mold is made of the finished woodcarving, followed by the lost wax process to create a bronze image. Pigmented patinas are applied to the bronze to match the natural pigments used in the polychrome of traditional woodcarving. Religious folklore attributes San Jose as the patron of fathers, of families, of carpenters and all workers. He is often invoked for a happy death, since Christ traditionally was said to be with him when he died."
