  Marco's Inspiration:
A shaman in the Native American culture is a medicine man (or woman), a priest, a healer. The spirituality of the saints has a special essence. But spirituality in the Native American culture shares the same essence but is broader in that it is based on nature and the concepts of good and evil. There are different spirits in nature that reflect the past, present and future. These are often symbolized through animal wildlife images. The Native American cultural belief of elevating oneself to a more sacred level by acquiring the spirit of animals is represented in the sculpture, "Masked Shaman."

In this sculpture of a male shaman with a Coyote mask on one side. The coyote symbolizes trickery. On the other side, the sculpture depicts a female shaman with an Owl mask which symbolizes mystery. Either of these can put on another mask-that of a Raven or Crow, which symbolizes wisdom. All are interconnected.

The sculpture is interactive-the mask can be removed and placed on either shaman, and is placed on a base that allows the image to be rotated, making it two sculptures in one. Marco calls this interpretation of two sides in sculpture "organic metamorphosis."
